Letter #3

hola familia!
que tal esta? first off i had my first baptism this last saturday! remember sofia? the 10 year old? well, she got baptized! remember how she canceled her baptism and what not and she was always distracted and not responsive? well, i thought to myself, self..... she is a 10 year old just like all the 10 yr olds back home, and they would never sit through these lessons either. so i made a memory game with points and chocolate as the prize :)  sofia loved it! she remembered all the answers, was responsive, and super excited! not only did she learn, but five or six other kids and 2 inactive mothers sat and participated as well. ever since then, sofia has been totally different. she decided to be baptized! even though sadly, non of her family came. not even her mom. but usually we have to go get her before church and we are unsuccessful at making her stay after sacrament, but yesterday when we went to get her, she was already waiting for us at the church. she wanted me to sit by her and she helped me find all the hymns. i gave her her first picture of jesus and some stickers I brought.  she went to all 3 hours yesterday! this is what its all about! we might have another baptism this sat. we are teaching one 20 year old girl thats just sweet as can be and a muy buena persona. we are hoping she will recieve an answer and be baptized in nov. same with a 60 year old.   so this last week we were walking down the road one night, and out of no where a car pulls up alongside us, and a girl calls out to us, which this sont of thing is never  a good thing. but we stopped and the girl shook our hands and said her name was gloria and she needed us to teach her friend juan. references NEVER happen here. so we go over to teach juan, who is in his late 50s and very rich.  so we go in to teach him and realize theres no other girl there... well crap.. then BAM!! gloria shows up! such a miracle. we sit down and immediatly juan fires off questions. he's catolico. miraculously  i was able to understand everything that was going on. well hermana argueta was struggling with the answers and i dont know enough spanish to help all that much. so 20 min into the lesson this has been going on. finally i stop him and ask if we can say a prayer. for one, i needed to save hermana argueta and 2, we needed the spirit and help bad!! so we say the prayer, and after all of his questions we tell him there is something with all the answers its the book of mormon! so we pull one out, give it to him.  he says he will read it and gets that we say the answers are there. great.. but something is missing. so in my broken spanish, i bore my testimony of how ive had a lot of those same questions and ive gotten my ansewers from the book of mormon and prayer. i told him how the book of mormon changed my life and can change his. i told him there is something different that you feel when you read, and i promised that if he read and prayed with his whole heart, he would recieve his answers. so during this, he totally changed. i had his full attention and the spirit was testifying of truth. it was awesome! he said he really wants to read and find out. we are praying by the end of nov he willl be baptized. hes awesome! testifvying is the best thing we can do! so every chance you get, testify! share your testimony because people out there are lost and need the light of christ in you to lead them home!
so it was hotter than a furnace this last week and we didnt have running water for a day.. that was exciting.... but im pretty much adjusted to everthing now..haha.  i definitely miss the things of home, but when theres nothing better, and you cant change it, you accept it, and just change your thinking to gratitude. my blisters are betterish this week. new ones have arrived though... Imagine that :) im understanding more espaƱol and when im just thinking about the people im not so worried about the language and my ever aching feet. its amazing what the love of christ an do! i know im only going to love it more and more. seeing those people dressed in white makes the hours and hours of walking worth it! i hope all is well with everyone! i love and miss you all so much! always keep the faith!

love, Hermana McDougal
